New Bing user experience

Of course I still use Google. Old habits die hard, anyway. Still, I was curious and tested New Bing. I compare it mainly with parallel use and ChatGPT3, as I have been practicing it for the last few months. I compare it primarily with the parallel use and ChatGPT3, as I have been practicing it for the last few months.

Here are a few of my highlights:

Chatbot and search integrated in the browser window
What makes it different from Google+ChatGPT: the intelligent search integrates itself into my browser window (at least when I use the Edge browser). A small downside: It doesn’t work so well with a small screen…

New Bing adapts to my normal behavior on the internet and is right there with me while I search. This gives me an idea of what working with Copilot might look like in other applications… Which brings me to the next point:

More complex searches are “guided”
I can now google (or is it bing now?) and can continue to refine my search – without having to start new searches again and again. In my search history, the thread remains until I am finished or no longer need it… I can easily go back if I get lost in a side topic or read something again. All without having to keep a bunch of tabs open in parallel (as before) or having to cache certain information.

Search with images… (visual search)
Previously, this was only possible within the image search: if I found a good image after typing in search terms, I can then display similar images there. With New Bing, it also works with images that I come across somewhere on the web However, this only works if they are known to the Bing algorithm and are assigned the icon for the visual search.

A little extra motivation: Awards
I don’t know if this will really make a difference, but a bit of gamification in the user experience is fun… Microsoft rewards every single Bing query with a points system – with or without AI.

Turn on critical thinking!
Despite all the euphoria and hype surrounding AI chatbots, it is important not to switch off critical thinking but to sharpen it and remain vigilant against risks and disadvantages. For example, the research group “Alignment Research Center” (ARC) considers New Bing to be very flawed in its focus. And I don’t blindly trust this digital companion either.
